Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show

The Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show in Mercedes, Texas is one of the top ten livestock shows in the state of Texas. Featuring a parade, rodeos, competitive livestock events, music, food, and more, this festival is one not to be missed. And, if you’re a winter Texan, you’re in luck! The show features Winter Texan Day once a year, offering discounted admission and parking rates to those who reside in Texas during the winter.

Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival

Bird enthusiasts flock to Harlingen, Texas to enjoy the annual Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival. It draws hundreds of bird lovers and avid bird watchers each year.

Rio Grande Valley Music Festival

Held annually in Mercedes, Texas, the Rio Grande Valley Music Festival is a non-profit event intended to bring together musicians of all levels and abilities to perform and provide Rio Grande Valley residents and visitors the opportunity to enjoy outstanding live music and entertainment. The festival’s proceeds are used to support local youth music education programs.

Texas Butterfly Festival

The Rio Grande Valley has gained worldwide recognition for it’s unique climate, which is the ideal habitat for a diverse variety of creatures, including butterflies. Each November, locals and regional visitors celebrate the roughly 300 species of butterflies in the region at the Texas Butterfly Festival. This three day event takes place during prime butterfly season and features field trips and educational activities, a butterfly photo contest, and a community day.

Texas Onion Fest

Held each spring in Weslaco, Texas, the Texas Onion Fest features live music, arts and crafts and children’s activities. The Miss Texas Onion Pageant, onion eating contests, recipe contests and a car show also take place during the festival. A performance by the Andalusian and Azteca Dancing Horses is the highlight of the event. The Texas Onion Fest is a unique, family friendly event not to be missed!

Texas Citrus Fiesta

Held annually in Mission, Texas, the Texas Citrus Fiesta was originally established to celebrate a bountiful winter harvest of grapefruits and oranges in the Rio Grande Valley. Today, the event celebrates the area’s long history with citrus farming, featuring a carnival, parade and royal pageant as well as a golf tournament, cook-off and numerous other activities. Many costumes and floats included in the parade use citrus fruits for decoration and embellishment.


Held annually on the first weekend in March in Hidalgo, Texas, BorderFest offers fun for the entire family. Established in 1978, this festival is a global event that celebrates a different country each year. Featuring hundreds of entertainers, multiple parades, live music, strolling acts and much more, this festival is a memorable experience year after year.

Fiesta Edinburg

This festival started as a party to commemorate Edinburg’s becoming the county seat of Hidalgo County. Since then, Fiesta Edinburg has grown into one of the Rio Grande Valley’s largest celebrations. A week-long festival, Fiesta Edinburg features a carnival, a parade, live music, arts and crafts booths, regional food vendors and top-notch live entertainment.

Hidalgo Festival of Lights

Held each year December, the Hidalgo Festival of Lights is the largest light display in Texas, featuring more than 3 million lights and over 500 large lighted displays along a 3 mile trail through Hidalgo, Texas. The festival starts at sunset every night throughout the month of December and offers music, ice skating, trolley, train and horse-drawn carriage rides, as well as the impressive lights display.
